Link MailMaven To Your World Of Data Using AppleScript
AppleScript support makes it possible to automate message processing and connect Maven with other applications such as Hookmark, EagleFiler, Filemaker, and DEVONthink. Almost anything you normally do by interacting with MailMaven’s interface, such as searching for messages, tagging, filing, flagging, and composing, can now be automated.
For example, you can perform an AppleScript Inbox Rule Action that will automatically archive messages being received to PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) systems such as EagleFiler or DEVONthink.
Alteratively you can create Automator, Shortcuts or Keyboard Maestro workflows that can access the currently selected messages or search for messages using a wide range of criteria, and then take specific actions such as tagging, moving or exporting messages.

Link AI Assistants To MailMaven Using The MailMaven MCP
SmallCubed is not jumping wholeheartedly on the AI bandwagon just yet but we recognize the utility of connecting AI to your email and the needs of users to use LLM (Large Language Models) to interact, analyse and generate messages. AppleScript makes it possible to control Maven using the natural language capabilities of AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT via a MCP server.
A Model Context Procotol is an open standard for AI assistants to communicate with applications on your computer. In the context of MailMaven and AppleScript, a MCP server translates AI requests and commands into AppleScript routines which then interact with MailMaven.
To connect AI assistants to Maven, we have developed a basic MCP server that implements over 25 end points. This can be downloaded and installed from our MailMavenMCP repository on GitHub. With the MailMavenMCP you can instruct your assistant to access and process messages without the need to write any AppleScript. For example, if you want a summary of the conversation you are reading, simply instruct the assistant to “Summarize the conversation of the currently selected message in MailMaven”.
The MailMavenMCP is open source so you can take a look at how it works and makes changes (add new end points, fix bugs, and more). How to update to MailMaven 1.2
MailMaven 1.2 is available today and requires macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later. MailMaven 1.2 is compatible with the public beta of macOS 27 Golden Gate.
You can update to MailMaven 1.2 by checking for updates in MailMaven, or by downloading the MailMaven disk image from the MailMaven Site.
Around the Corner
We at SmallCubed have a busy fall ahead of us as Maven approaches its first anniversary. We would like to share with you a few things that we are currently working on:
- S/MIME: Secure Email for those that require this encryption/data signing method. (Slated for version 1.3, due out in beta in August)
- Synchronization of settings, rule and smart mailbox configurations between computers.
- Numerous Interface improvements, including increased customization of the layout of message viewer; the implementation of MailSuite’s “Perspective windows” which provide a compact way of listing messages; and a new type of window that quickly focuses on messages from arbitrary sources.
